What are the various UK work visas?

 There are different UK work visas available to non-EEA or Commonwealth citizens who want to live and work in the UK.   • Long-term work visas (up to 5 years)

These include visas for people who have been offered a job with a UK company, entrepreneurs who want to set up their own business and those switching from another visa category in the UK. To apply for most UK work visas you will need an offer of employment from a licensed sponsor, who will help you with your application and assist with any queries about your visa.

  • Investor, business development and talent visas

If you want to work in the UK, there are several categories of visas you can apply for. You may be able to apply for a visa under the points-based system, depending on your situation. The Investor visa enables overseas business people who want to invest £200,000 or more in a new or existing UK business to apply for this visa. If you’re already running a business outside the UK and are considering expanding it into the UK, you may be eligible for this visa.

An experienced senior manager or executive who has worked for an overseas company and wants to move their job to a UK branch of that company can apply for a Business Development visa. The Talent visa is aimed at the most highly skilled workers from around the world. They must have been endorsed by a recognized body as leaders or emerging leaders in fields such as science, humanities, engineering and the arts.

Other work visas available in the United Kingdom include:

Ancestry visa for the United Kingdom. If you are a Commonwealth citizen applying from outside the UK, you can apply for this visa, which allows you to work in the UK. At least one of your grandparents must have been born in the United Kingdom.

Domestic Workers in a Private Household visa in the United Kingdom. This visa is for domestic workers in private households who want to visit the UK with their employer.

Visa for Overseas Business in the United Kingdom. If you are the sole representative of an overseas firm proposing to open a UK branch or a totally owned subsidiary for an overseas parent company, you can apply for this visa. Employees of international news organizations on long-term assignments in the UK are also eligible.
